toekomstmuziek
Context: Voor mij bieden nieuwe talen altijd nieuwe perspektieven op onderwerpen die mij na aan het hart liggen. Met mijn collega’s uit Utrecht wissel ik veel van gedachten uit over onze visies op een leefbare toekomst. Dus de volgende tekst is een poëtische verkenning van het heden en de toekomst in het Nederlands.

not our revolution
Context:
The writer and political activist Emma Goldman wrote in her autobiography „living my life“ (1931:56):
„At the dances I was one of the most untiring and gayest. One evening a young boy took me aside. With a grave face […] he whispered to me that it did not behoove an agitator to dance. […] My frivolity would only hurt the Cause.
I grew furious at the impudent interference of the boy. I told him to mind his own business. I was tired of having the Cause constantly thrown into my face. I did not believe that a Cause which stood for a beautiful ideal, for anarchism, for release and freedom from convention and prejudice, should demand the denial of life and joy. I insisted that our Cause could not expect me to become a nun and that the movement would not be turned into a cloister. If it meant that, I did not want it.„
Nearly a thousand years later, many of the issues she addressed are still relevant. Equally relevant is the continuing risk for socioecological movements to reproduce the very same one-dimensional dogmatic attitude in subjugation of their pursued goals. In the quote, Goldman takes a stand against this rigid, obdurate way of fighting for her cause: not her revolution without life, joy and dance.

moment en vrac
Contexte : J’ai écrit ces pixels poétiques dans un moment d’accablement, au milieu des rues animées de Paris. Je venais de sortir d’un supermarché et j’étais agacé par le plastique, le bruit, les lumières clignotantes et les odeurs qui m’entouraient. Comment ce mode de vie peut-il être bon pour qui que ce soit ou quoi que ce soit sur cette planète ?
Heureusement que danser dans la rue avec quelqu’un que j’aime bien et disparaître dans un moment « en vrac » ne m’a jamais déçu jusqu’à présent.

Context: I showed my sister the text „u look fine“ and asked her how she liked it. Her reaction was a little reluctant:
„Don’t you wrap yourself in the same cloak of moral superiority that you seek to criticize?“
I guess she is not wrong about that. But I still care about increasing social inequalities and the lack of action by people who might be in positions to address them. Moral high ground? I don’t know. Who am I to judge?

U look fine
Context: I wrote this wordscape while doing research about distributive justice both in social and ecological terms. #Taxingthesuperrich seems to me an essential step to reach increased global justice. Yet, even I do not fall into this category, in global comparison I am already privileged through my birthplace, nationality and family context.
This makes me part of the problem – and motivates me to become part of possible solutions. Wanna join?
